Hi, all, my new website is up, but it's still under construction. So if you find any missing links, I'm sorry. My webmistress is working to make sure everything is ready for its grand debut on Wednesday, August 15th, which, by the way, is the day I'm holding my blog party to celebrate the unveiling!

I'll be posting throughout the day, sharing news, excerpts, blurbs, and things you can't find anywhere else on the Internet. Of course, there will be prizes, so I hope as many of you as can will come out!

I finished the book requested by Nocturne!!!! I'm reading it now to make sure it's all polished, and I should be able to send it out by this week. Woo-hooo!!

What's up next? Well, I just entered Kensington Brava's contest, and I'm working on edits for Ellora's Cave. Also, I'm working on my next novella for Red Sage. I only have five more months to meet my goals for the year, and I'm bound and determined I'll get there.

Home Again!

Hi, all,

I just got back Sunday from spending ten days in Missouri. It was great getting to actually spend time with a friend I made on the internet. I'm hoping to be able to post some pictures soon. I took some really great shots of some of the town's unique landmarks.

Now, for five things I learned while I was in Southern Missouri:

1. There is no hour—only ire. No chair—only cheer. No scared—only skeered. No ruined—only rurnt. And the list goes on.
2. Driving loops around the town on Friday night is considered the highlight of the week.
3. Knocking isn't required as long as you know at least one of the residents inside the house.
4. Shoes are optional.
5. And people know how to make you feel at home when you're a visitor!

While I would definitely recommend Missouri as a vacation spot, I wouldn't recommend taking a puddle-jumper plane like I did.

More about that later. In the meantime, much thanks to Rene and her family for making me feel so welcome in their part of the world!

I mentioned earlier that I would be sharing a bit about my latest novella which I'm working on for a contest I'm entering in August. So here goes:

Scarlet's Web

He died with her name on his lips and the scent of another woman’s perfume on his clothes. His final mistake. Scarlet couldn’t tolerate cheaters. Or liars. Or, well, a host of other sins men enjoyed.

It was a pity, really. She’d liked Sam, but then, she’d liked them all…up until the day she had to kill them.The hotel room clicked shut behind her, and the plush carpeting muffled her footsteps as she crossed the hallway to the elevator.

The cleaning crew would find Sam’s body soon enough, but his killer, well, no one would ever find her. She was too…efficient. Once she’d made her decision, she didn’t change her mind, nor did she leave mistakes behind.

The elevator doors slid shut, encasing her in a box of steel. Yes, it truly was a damn shame.

Ms. Carrington has written a very exciting and suspenseful story here. Quinn and Gabi are both very strong and stubborn characters and it is no surprise that they had trouble when they were married. Quinn, in particular seems a bit unbending. It is obvious that they still have very strong feelings for each other right at the beginning of the story, and the killer pushes them closer together. The killer himself is a great character. He hides in the shadows and turns up in places that he never should have been yet is upset that his victims do not look at him. The roses are a really good touch. He sends chills down your spine. The best part is that the author gives clues as to who he is but by no means makes it easy to figure the mystery out. The closing scenes at a remote cabin are very nerve wracking and exciting. I couldn’t put this story down and will definitely read it again.

Looking forward to vacation!

Hi, all,

I'll be heading out for vacation in less than ten days now! Woo-hoo! Cannot wait! I'm going to Missouri to spend ten days with a close friend of mine, and we're attending a festival where we can showcase our books, etc. So it's going to be a working vacation, but still, it will be fun.

The town I'm heading to is a little dot on the map called East Prairie. Ever heard of it? No, I didn't think so. I'd never heard of it, either, but from what I'm told, the town has to pipe in the sunshine and pipe out the moonshine. LOL When my friend tells me she has to "go to town", it's a journey. I always tease her about having to pack a picnic lunch to go.

At any rate, I'm going to try to post some pictures here while I'm gone, just so those of us from the big cities will have something to ogle!!!

Got a few more updates before I go, and the big one is...I've just approved my new site design. Woo-hoo! My webmistress outdid herself this time! I'm sooo blessed! She's working hard on it, and I'm sure it will debut soon.

I'm actually a little over halfway finished with my entry for Kensington's contest. The novella has to be 25,000 words, but the entry is only 750 words. So culling out 750 words from 25,000 is going to be interesting. Geesh.

The title of the novella is Scarlet's Web, and hopefully, I'll be able to post a blurb either tomorrow or Saturday. Right now, I've just been writing like a fiend as much as I can in between other assignments.

But I promise I'll post something more about it soon, maybe even a sneak peek. Shhhhh. That just has to be our secret!!

But isn't this some absolutely amazing eye candy? Certainly is a treat, isn't it? Shemar Moore is one of my favorite actors. Not only is he good at what he does, but he looks good doing it. Yumm! I think if I were trapped in a room with him, Pierce Brosnan, and Kevin Sorbo, I'd die a very happy woman. I think you can figure out why I'd die!!!!

When I write, I have to get a picture of a character in my head, and oh my gosh, the many, many times, I've used Shemar as a character. Then I usually have to stop to wipe the drool from my face after I create the character chart.

I'm dawdling when I should be writing. Hey, I just updated my Bebo site. That counts for writing, doesn't it? No, that's promoting. Crud. I better get busy then!

The latest news...

Yes, I know it's been a month since I've posted. I have been updating my Bebo site, and I'm anxiously awaiting my new website that my webmistress is hard at work on. I've already seen the draft, and it's gorgeous.

So here's a quick update:

Timeless Spell has been sent to my editor at EC for second round edits.
The first three chapters of one of my new novels has gone to Harlequin Nocturne.
I'm working on an entry for Kensington Brava's contest which is held yearly at Lori Foster's website. It's a 750 word entry, but the novella has to be complete at about 25,000 words. So I'm about 7,500 words into the novella now, and the entry deadline is September 30th.
On June 28th, I'm heading out to Missiouri for ten days. I'll be spending time with my friend, Rene. We're attending a festival in her town where we can promote our books, etc. So that should be fun.
I also have a submission with an agent right now. So fingers crossed on that one.

Okay, so I didn't get my edits done before my editor returned from RT, but I am still frantically working on them. If you don't believe me, just visit my Bebo site at http://rcarrington.bebo.com. I'm posting little snippets of what I'm working on.

Right now, I'm about thirty pages away from wrapping up Timeless Spell, but then I have to go back and flesh out the plot, etc. However, that should be a lot easier than actually reworking the entire plot which is what I've done!

Ack! I much prefer writing to editing!!!!!! I guess from here in on, I'll be a little more careful about those plot holes, won't I?

The grindstone awaits.....

As I've mentioned before, I'm hard at work on the edits for Timeless Spell which are long overdue. I'm hoping to get them finished up before my editor gets back from RT, so I can sneak them into her inbox. :-)

On another note, it's absolutely gorgeous here in South Carolina. With temperatures in the 80's, it's enough to make a person want to stay outside rather than cooped inside writing. I've driven by the pool a few times at the apartment complex where I live, and hearing the splashing and laughter makes me want to stop what I'm doing and join in the fun. But alas, not only do I have a deadline to meet, I can't swim! LOL I know. Unfathomable that a person living so close to the beach can't swim.

To that end, I have now made the decision to learn how to swim this summer. One of my closest friends, who was a competitive swimmer, is going to teach me. So that means the odds are good I won't drown. Although she is only a size six, and I'm...well, not a size six. Think she can still keep me afloat?

At any rate, our lessons will be starting next month, so fingers crossed everyone! By the summer's end, I want to be gliding through the water like a fish, although, I'll settle for just not drowning. LOL

Indigo Spell review from Mrs. Giggles

Hee-hee. I love this woman. She's just so honest when it comes to reviews, and as I'm reading her review of Indigo Spell, I'm laughing out loud.

Here's a brief example of the summary which I chuckled all the way through:

Jaxon, like Tess, is dragged to the Bachelor Auction under less than truthful circumstances. His brother Harry left out the part where he's supposed to act on stage like a stripper at Aunt Bertha's 87th birthday bash in a Vegas club, for one. But one look at Tess and he's muah-muah'ing her on the lips while the others watching them clap and hoot in encouragement. I love it when rich people legalize prostitution in the name of saving the kiddies. Anyway, what Tess doesn't realize is that Jaxon is an immortal wizard and her Harlequin Blaze story will soon transform into a tale of Evil Witches Wanting To Kill The Good Wizards.

Long days, longer nights

Ack, I've been putting in a lot of long hours with edits and rewrites. I swear I've rewritten Till We Meet Again at least three times, well, large parts of it anyway. It's scheduled to release from Loose-Id on May 15th, and let me tell ya, it's a new book. My editor got a hold of it and literally tore it apart. And now, it's a better book because of it. I hope you'll check it out once it releases!

On another note, I went to Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million here in my area yesterday and discovered Lover from Another World on the shelves. I signed all the copies that were in stock, and the Barnes and Noble manager wants me to set up a booksigning at that store. I plan on going to the other stores in my area this week to sign those copies. The stores have those spiffy little autographed copy stickers to put on the books.

At any rate, are any of my readers in or around the South Carolina area? If I do set up a book signing, I want to see how many of you could make it. I'd like to do something special for any of my readers who can show up!

Please let me know ASAP, so I can get this signing set up!

Finally, finally, finally! I feel like it's taken forever for this book to release and now, here it is! Available now from Ellora's Cave. It's been revised, majorly expanded, and it's extremely hotter than ever before. If you bought this book in 2004 when it first released, you might think this will be the same, but both my editor and I can tell you, this book has undergone drastic changes. I guess it's a lot like plastic surgery. The major characters are still there, but the facelift has really helped!!!!

I guess now is the time to start biting my nails as the book begins to make its trek around the reviewers.

American Idol Fanatic

I don't think I've shared this with you guys before, but I'm an American Idol fanatic. I tape the show if I'm not available to watch it, and if I'm home watching it, I don't answer the phone. It's one of my addictions.

Tonight, the top twelve was chosen, and I was floored at two of the contestants who didn't make it in that top twelve! I know many of you watch it, so what did you think? Should Sundance and Sabrina have been eliminated? I was so shocked when Sundance didn't make it that I could only sit there with my mouth hanging open, and Sabrina has the most awesome voice.

It's shows like these that can give y'all an idea of how an author feels when we enter a contest. It can be a nail-biting time!!! I was really sorry to see two of my favorites go tonight. :-( I guess this is what I get for being addicted, huh?

Okay, I have three books releasing within the next two weeks or so, and I'm getting really nervous now. This is a first for me.

Indigo Spell is releasing from Ellora's Cave on Friday, March 16th.
Burning Reflections is releasing in paperback from Samhain Publishing on Tuesday, March 20th.
Lovers from Another World (Pocket anthology) is releasing on Tuesdays, March 20th as well.

I just found out that Burning Reflections is a bestseller at Mobipocket!

I think I might have mentioned before how surprising this is considering I don't ordinarily write romantic suspense or contemporary, for that matter.

And speaking of Not Her Mr. Right, my contemporary romance with a plus-size heroine, was in the top five sellers at Forbidden Publications for the month of January.

So this has me totally baffled. So here's a question: For all of you who've read my books, which do you prefer—contemporary or paranormal?

Okay, I just got the proof for my book, Breathless, which will be in Secrets, Volume 22, coming from Red Sage Publishing in December 2007. I've received proofs before, but this one excited me soooo much. Maybe it's because Red Sage has been on my list of writing goals for the past three years, and when I got accepted last year, it was a phenomenal feeling! Now, to see this so close, well, it makes me almost giddy! LOL

A Day Off and Favorite Movies

I took the day off today, and with the exception of attending a baby shower, I was able to relax and just take it easy. Absolutely no writing or any other work-related activities. I was surprised at how difficult that was for me!!!

Anyway, I watched a fabulous movie called "The Lake House." In case you didn't know, I'm a sucker for romantic movies, and this is one of my all-time favorites now. All it took was one viewing, and I was hooked!!!!!! This is a definite keeper!

Last weekend, my friend and I went to see "Because I Said So" with Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, and now, I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD. That's one to be bought as well. It's funny, romantic, touching, and just an overall feel-good movie. Don't you just love those?

Next weekend, I've got two more movies set aside to watch as I have a lot of them on my shelf which I bought new and have never watched. So I've determined it's time to go through the lot of them, so I can get rid of the ones which aren't keepers. Keepers to me are the movies which I'll watch again and again, depending upon my mood.

Do any of you have movies which are keepers for you? Ones you know you'll never part with? Maybe you know of some I haven't seen. I'm always on the lookout for good movies. Has anyone seen Dear Frankie? I've seen the previews of that movie, and it looks good. Any input on that one?

It's back to work tomorrow even though it's a holiday! Have a great week tomorrow!

I just had to post this picture because, first of all, it's cute, and second, it explains my mood better than I could. :-)

I'm sure I don't need to ask you all this, but did you ever have one of those days when you're just driving down your road screaming in your car because you're afraid if someone in your family heard you screaming like that, they'd call 911? Oh, come on, that can't be just me....can it?

Never mind. Let's move on to the important things. Not that good mental health isn't important, mind you.

I'm going to start having some guest bloggers to liven up the place around here, and either my guest or I will be blogging on Mondays and Thursdays. I'll be posting at least once or twice a day on those days, but the floor will be wide open for my guest blogger. So please make him or her feel at home and shower them with attention, affection, and questions!

The question is, can Evan overcome the obstacles Morgan has placed between them? Rachel Carrington has written a page-turner that I couldn’t put down. I will definitely be looking for more stories by her.

This is probably the best romantic suspense story I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I literally felt like I was in the story. I cried with Morgan during all the heartbreak she went through. I got angry with Evan over what happened to Morgan. I cheered on their love and rooted for them to capture the psycho who hurt Morgan physically and emotionally. To me, actually feeling every emotion along with a character is the testament to a great work of art. Rachel Carrington finally made that happen for me. What an amazing author. She is definitely an author to compete with in this genre. I will be on the edge of my seat looking for new books from her.

Burning Reflections brings to light the horror of obsession and the lengths that mental illness can drive a person. These two definitely belong together and it’s a shame that they ever separated in the first place. Rachel Carrington has penned a love story full of action and intrigue that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Burning Reflections is one of the best Rachel Carrington books to date, written in a way that is, in one word, mesmerizing. Morgan's struggle to regain her sense of self while trying to survive on the run from a killer, is one nail-biting experience after another. Then you throw in Evan, Morgan's ex-husband that comes from a background Morgan doesn't feel comfortable being a part of and what you are left with is a situation complex enough to ensure that you will be reading this story in one setting.

Watching this writer evolve from some of her earlier works to Burning Reflections, this reviewer has felt privileged to observe her transformation. If this book is any indication of stories to come Rachel Carrington is going to take off in her writing career. Burning Reflections is one book that should be added to anyone's to-be-read list. It is guaranteed to make Rachel Carrington an author that you will actively seek out time and time again.

What an amazing, emotional, heart-wrenching tale. Rachel Carrington is a master storyteller of what I refer to as “what if” fiction. Ms. Carrington takes an issue and weaves a story of monumental proportions around it. I literally cried through this whole story. After losing a child myself, I could sympathize with everything Karyn was going through. Rachel Carrington is a little bit Jodi Picoult and a little bit Nicholas Sparks all rolled into one astonishing author. I cannot say enough good things about Rachel Carrington except that I hope she never stops writing.

Okay, allow me to rant for a few seconds. I promise I won't make your eyes bleed...well, not much.

Most, if not all of you, know that I have a disability. If not, you do now. At any rate, this disability requires that I walk with a cane and because of limited mobility, I park in handicapped spaces.

Now, folks, this wasn't exactly my choice. I mean, if the Fates, Karma, or whatever you want to call it had asked me first, I would have said I prefer to remain able-bodied. But I didn't get that call.

At any rate, I've adapted, and usually, I go about the day minding my own business. Today, however, I had an encounter with an extremely rude, obnoxious ass who, after I got out of my car at the store, had the audacity to say I didn't look like I was disabled even though I had my cane. Then he says, obviously not seeing the danger light in my eyes, that those spaces should be reserved for people who really need them.

Did I say something to him? Is a pig's butt pork? Do monkeys have a climbing gear in their butts? You better believe I did, and it wasn't pretty. Yes, I could have walked away, turned the other cheek, been the bigger person, but today, I didn't. No, that man, received the brunt of my disgust with narrow-minded people.

That said, I just have to say, one day, I hope we get to the point in our civilized world where we aren't judged by another person. Period.

I just found out that the newly-revised version of Indigo Spell will be released from Ellora's Cave on March 17th! I'm anxiously awaiting the cover now. If it's as good as the one for Breaking the Spell, I'll be an extremely happy, happy person!!!!

I cannot wait for this book to be released. It took me months to rework it according to EC's high standards, and I really do think it's a better book because of it! That's just my opinion, of course.

Yes, it's that time again. Time to make your list of goals, so you can either groan this time next year or celebrate your achievements. I keep a goal journal that I use at the beginning of every year. I try to check in with it each month to see if I'm still on track, and fortunately, this year, I've done amazingly better than I have the years before. Of course, some of the goals were small victories, but even the small ones count, right?

This coming year, one of my resolutions is to interact even more with my readers. I tried to do that this year, but well, certain things got in the way. Pretty lame excuse, huh? Well, there's always time for redemption.

Is it that time of the year again already? Doesn't it always seem like time just flies by? I think the oldler I get the more I think that. Seems like I was just twenty, and now here I am, well, older than twenty. :-)

This has been a wonderful year for my writing, and I'm still in shock with everything that's happened.

Anyway, since Christmas is right around the corner, I thought I'd ask you all what you like most about Christmas. For me, it's spending time with friends and family, the music, the decorations, and the food! Well, I guess that just sums up Christmas, doesn't it? I don't think there's anything I don't like about it!

Breast Cancer Awareness

Earlier this month, a friend of mine found a lump in her breast. She's awaiting test results now, and is, of course more than a little concerned. Having had numerous breast tumors removed myself, I understand her fear and wanted to share some information you all might not come in contact with every day.

As you all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I recently watched an episode of Ellen with Sheryl Crow as her guest, and the information Sheryl gave was amazing. So I immediately went to her website (www.sherylcrow.com) and was pleasantly surprised to find several articles which provide copious amounts of information regarding the dangers of many types of chemicals and toxins we aren't even aware of.

One particular toxin is phthalates which cause myriad problems, but I did a little more research and found many, many more toxins which can contribute to this deadly disease.

I also looked at the information from the opposite side of the fence, researching the chemicals and toxins themselves, and many companies say the toxins are well within safety levels, safe for consumer use, and no concern for consumers. ( http://www.phthalates.org/yourhealth/personal_care.asp) But I have to agree with www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org when it says: The notion of "safe" or "acceptable" levels of hazardous chemicals in our products should only be introduced when we cannot find alternatives. We are entitled to products that won't hurt us.

As I wait the test results with my friend, I hope that each and every one of you use this month to become more aware of what could be harming your body and ways to protect it besides just eating right and exercising.

from speaking at Carolina Romance Writers' (Charlotte, NC) monthly meeting. It was a blast! I met a lot of great people, including Angela Knight and many, many other wonderful ladies who really made me feel at home.

I spoke on the subject of finding your perfect publishing mate (your publisher) since this is a topic that is really close to my heart. I hate to hear about an author who has gotten scammed or is unhappy with their author because of shoddy business tactics. But enough about that as I'm in danger of starting another rant! :-)

At any rate, if you live in the Charlotte area, and you haven't already checked out this great group of authors, you need to! They're funny, down-to-earth, and just good people! I enjoyed every minute of my time with them!

Songs of our lives

Do you ever think "wow, he's talking about my life" when you're listening to a song? I was doing that today.

Ever heard the song: If You're Going Through Hell? It's by Rodney Atkins, and the lyrics suit just about anyone. The refrain is "If you're going through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared, don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there."

Now, honestly, wouldn't that fit your life at one point or another? I know it has mine. I love to find songs that I can actually relate to instead of those that I can't understand what's being said or what the singer is talking about! The songs I listen to actually have to have meaning.

Another one of my favorite songs is "When the Sun Goes Down", and it's sung by Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker. Most people who know me already know I'm a freak about Uncle Kracker. Absolutely love, love, love him! But this song in particular is just about taking it easy on the beach. We all need those days, too.

So anyway, on my hunt to find songs to listen to as I write tomorrow, I came across many that made me stop and just listen to the lyrics. Those are what I call the "wow songs." You know, those ones which make you stop whatever it is you're doing even if you've heard the song one hundred times. I have an entire laundry list of songs like that, some that make me laugh, others that make me cry, and others that just touch a part of my heart.

I'll leave you with one more if you're looking for a poignant song about unrequited love: Daniel Bedingfield's "If You're Not the One."

Latest Trauma

Okay, so I had to run to Target to pick up a few things as every Saturday is my errand day. As some of you may or may not know, I have a bum back due to an auto accident three years ago. Sometimes, that bum back does strange things to my legs...like yesterday.

I'm strolling through Target pushing a cart, meandering through the aisles as I like to take my time when I'm in there. Target is, I believe, my most favorite store. At any rate, I'm in amongst the movies and books so I release the cart to peruse even further up the aisle. Well, what do you think happens?

My right leg gives out and down I go. Now, folks, I'm used to this happening, and I'm supposed to walk with a cane to prevent this, but I'm vain. I'll admit it. It's vanity that keeps me from walking with the cane which would have prevented me from busting my ass.

At any rate, my right arm hits the book shelf as I go down which disturbs the books and makes a lot of noise. The next thing I know, I'm the star of my very own most embarassing moment. Now, it wouldn't have been so bad had I attracted only a couple of people, but no, I have to go overboard and draw a crowd. One member of that crowd happened to be one of the sexiest men I believe I've seen outside of the celebrity world.

So there I am, sprawled out on the floor like a dead octopus, when sexy guy stoops down to offer me a hand up. Did I mention that the other people who'd come around the corner to gawk did NOT offer a hand? Instead, they watched me like I was a fish in an aquarium.
Okay, I'm digressing. So hunky guy is helping me up off the floor, and apparently, my leg isn't ready to cooperate yet because just as he pulls me to my feet, down I go again...

TAKING HIM WITH ME.

Now, imagine my horror when I realize I'm lying on top of this absolutely gorgeous man, and his face is pressed against my boobs!!!!! I'm apologizing profusely when he says...and I quote (because I may just have to use this entire scene in one of my books)..."You didn't hear me complaining."

With just those words, he made me laugh as well as the crowd around us.

When a cow is slaughtered, about half of it by weight is not eaten by humans; this includes the intestines and their contents, the head the hooves, the horns, as well as bones and blood. These are dumped into giant grinders at rendering plants, as well as the entire bodies of cows and other farm animals known to be diseased. There is simply no such thing in America as an animal too ravaged by disease, too cancerous, or too putrid to be welcomed by the all-embracing arms of the renderer. Another staple of the renderer's diet, in addition to farm animals, is euthanized pets -- the six or seven million dogs and cats that are killed in animal shelters every year. Added to the blend are the euthanized catch of animal control agencies, and roadkill. (Road kill is not collected daily, so in the summer, the better road kill crews can generally smell it before they can see it...) When this gruesome mix is ground and steam-cooked, the lighter, fatty material floating to the top gets refined for use in such products as cosmetics - of every form and brand, lubricants, soaps, lotions, "anti-aging" remedies, nail polish, perfumes, candles and waxes etc....and that my friends, is the cold, hard truth about where the "animal by-products" come from that the cosmetic industry tries to pawn off onto the American public. Don't let a company fool you into thinking they are so environmentally friendly and humane because their products are not "tested on animals".... they just USE the dead animals IN their products!!! This diseased, putrid, disgusting animal waste fatty material is used as "fillers" for conserving concentrated product. Think about that the next time you apply your lipstick....what roadkill are you putting on your lips....(or your little girl's lips playing dress up!!) and letting be absorbed over time into your bloodstream?????? If you got out of the shower this morning, blow-dried your hair and gave your 'do a spritz of VO5 hairspray, you've just poisoned yourself a little bit with phthalates. If you do this every morning as your regular routine, you are accumulating these poisons by the bucketful. But it's not just VO5 that could make you sick. During the summer, I don't ordinarily watch a lot of television because it's mostly reruns, but this year, I've found myself straying into the living room to watch tv when I should be writing. Now, I'm hooked. Absolutely in love with House, M.D. Can't miss an episode of it. Have you seen it? The sarcasm is fabulous, and it's laugh-out-loud funny. Hugh Laurie is the perfect tortured hero. God, I love him.

I also don't miss The Closer, Bones, or Angela's Eyes now. So that's four shows that I now have to fit into my fall viewing schedule. LOL Life is so tough, especially since House comes on opposite NCIS which I can't miss, either because, hello, Mark Harmon. I'd watch that man stand on a street corner waving. Yum!!!!!!

Have any of you seen these shows?

I tried watching Saved, Monk, Psych, Dead Zone, and The 4400 but couldn't get into those, thank God. I don't know when I'd have time to actually earn money. Geesh.

I've been spreading my wings over the past couple of years with my fantasy writing. I started with wizards in my Spell series then moved to witches, witch-hunters, vampires, and ghosts. But lately, I've had another type of fantasy romance on my mind, and it's really taken hold. So I'll probably be putting my other books on hold to at least get an outline written.

That said, what is your favorite type of fantasy/paranormal romance? Let me know some book titles and authors that you like to read (besides yours truly, of course LOL). I might even be able to snag a few of them in here for a blog day.

Okay, so I'm hard at work on the edits for a book with EC, and I've been trying to figure out if I should use condoms or not. Yeah, it's a strange subject for an erotica author, I know, but to be honest, I've never really worried about it because my heroes are other-worldly. Well, now, I have to make sure this heroine doesn't get pregnant before she's supposed to.

So here's the poll. Do you, as a reader or writer of erotic books, find that the use of a condom pulls you out of the story? I'm thinking it would be okay if she was just on the pill, but the problem is she hasn't been sexually active in a while. So why would she be on the pill, right?

So what do you think?

A Book Worth Reading

I think I mentioned how big a fan I was of the movie, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." Well, I recently bought the book, Madea's Uninhibited Commentaries on Love and Live "Don't Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings" by Tyler Perry.

First, let me say this man is a master when it comes to combining comedy with plain common sense. This book is hilarious, and yet, delivers messages in such a forthright manner that you can't help but take them to heart.

Funny, powerful, and charming, this book is definitely a keeper!

but I know a lot of aspiring authors are in my newsletter group and read my blog. So I wanted to post a simple warning.

When looking for a publisher, you might want to reconsider those which a) charge you fees to put your book into print (even if they call it the printer's set-up fee), b) put out copious amounts of books in a short amount of time from relatively unknown authors, and c) do not bother to edit the excerpts on their website.

Now, I understand that some very good publishers may fall into categories b and c which is why I said you might want to reconsider. Personally, I believe an excerpt should be fully edited before it goes up on the website as representing that company, and some authors will take the machine gun approach when submitting their books. By this, I mean, they will submit seven books at one time to seven different smaller publishers. Once those are accepted (because a lof of the newer publishers are looking for quantity), the author will then submit seven more just to get their name out there.

Having fourteen books published by publishers which are relatively unknown does not make you more marketable or increase your chances of signing with a bigger publisher. It's best to hone one book, make it shine, and then submit it to one of the more established publishers. Then you can work on your next book while waiting to hear from that submission. Writing takes time; getting published takes even more. It's better to be patient and create a solid resume for yourself.

As I write romance, it tends to reason that I am a romantic movie fanatic! In the last couple of weeks I've seen a few movies that have quickly gone on my keeper shelf, and I had to share them with you in case you haven't seen them! Not your typical romances, these movies have a little bit of everything!

Diary of a Mad Black Woman

A love story with a theme! I loved it. From the laugh-out loud scenes with Madea (Tyler Perry) to the amazing dialogue between Helen (Kimberly Elise) and Orlando (Shemar Moore), this movie has it all. I can't tell you how many times I've watched several of the scenes based on the comedy alone.
Wedding Crashers

Okay, now that I've seen this one, I'm a sucker for Vince Vaughan. Is there anything wrong with this man? He's 6'5 of handsome! And funny!!!! It's slightly raunchy (which, of course, doesn't bother me) but has a dedicated love story, one which leads to some pretty funny situations.

Pride and Prejudice

I can't even begin to crow about this one enough. The latest version of Jane Austen's infamous story, this movie adds an extra amount of comedy, class, and beauty. I've rewatched the ending scene many, many, many times. Perfect!

Failure to Launch

I have to admit that I've always been partial to Michael McConnaughey, but this movie just solidifies it. The man is charmingly sexy, casually handsome, and is almost on equally level footing as George Clooney as a romantic leading man. (Can you tell I'm a big George Clooney fan?)

This is a bit of an off-subject topic, but I was thinking today of the trials and tribulations which have assaulted me over the past few months. You know those days when everything looks gloomy, and you think you should have stayed in bed? Well, that was me earlier today. I was thinking what a total waste of make-up this day turned out to be! And then I started scrolling through some of my favorite quotes about success, happiness, friends, etc., and I found this one again.

This quote is one of my favorites as it expresses, to me, what beauty really is. Not all of us can be supermodels, celebrities, or high fashion ladies who spend thousands of dollars on clothes and jewelry. Most of us are just average...at least to the population around us, but to those who love us, we're beautiful.

To me, my friends are the most beautiful people in the world because I know what they're like on the inside. I see the "light within", especially when it's dark in my world. With everything that I have in my life, I've been truly blessed to have the best friends a woman could ever have. And I don't take any of them for granted.

They give me a reason to put on makeup. :-)

Friends and other comments

One of the most important things we can have in life is a friend. We take the time to cultivate a frienship, grow to genuinely love and care for the person, and want to see he/she succeed.

So what happens when something comes along to end that friendship? Something you never expected would result in a loss of that friendship?

That happened to me recently, and though, I don't place the blame on anyone, I can't help but wonder if true friends allow anything short of a criminal act (or a breach of trust) to come between that relationship. What I thought was a decision made in the best interest of a lot of people turned out to be the final straw in a relationship. Is it repairable? I doubt it. And it hurts. A lot.

I've had friends for over twenty years, have maintained those relationships, and still stay in close contact with all of them. But this one, a relatively short one of about two years, devastates me just as much as the loss of one of those friendships would.

Anyway, to bring this ramble to a close, I cherish each and every one of my friends, but I have to live with myself. I can't change a sound decision I made based on someone's hurt feelings. I have to be able to look at myself in the mirror and to say that I didn't compromise what I felt was right. That, to me, is what integrity is all about.

Friends in Publishing

I've been blessed to have a lot of friends in my life, and those friends have become my family over the years. So it would stand to reason that when one of those friends hurt, I hurt. Rejection is never a pleasant thing whether it's in writing, art, or any other endeavor.

Recently, a good friend of mine's art was rejected, and though the company could have said a simple "no, thank you," they chose to tell her, in a less than professional manner, why they were rejecting the art. Why was that necessary? I just have to ask that because as an author, my writing has been rejected before, and I, too, have received what I call nasty-grams. Is there a point to them? Does an editor/owner of a business really need to prove that he/she has more power by walking over another person's dreams?

Just as you don't achieve true dedication from those who work for you or with you by a full frontal assault, you run the risk of alienating yourself and your company by repetitive cruel rejections. That said, this philosophy is something I try to apply to every day life. I can say no without being cruel. I think that's something more people need to learn...especially in this industry.

Welcome, everyone, to my brand new blog courtesy of Moonglade Designs. I have an awesome webmistress who just seemed to know exactly what would look right for me!

Now, on to news:

Pocket Books chose thirty novellas from Ellora's Cave extensive line to put into three author anthologies beginning November 2006, and my novella, Her Lover's World, was one of the chosen. These book will be widely distributed through Pocket's marketing channels and should be in every bookstore across the nation. I'll be in the anthology with Shiloh Walker and Elizabeth Jewell, and the title is Lover from Another World. Ours is set to debut in March 2007. I know that seems like a long time, but things have been flying lately, so it'll go quickly enough. Besides, this gives me plenty of time for some advance promo.

Next, my book, The Hunted, will release from Loose-Id on June 27, 2006. This is my latest vampire novella, so I hope you enjoy it.

I'll be featured at The Romance Studio Blue in June, and the focus is the sequel to Choices, In This Life.

Choices continues to sell well as does With Love from Sam, so I thank you all for that. And fingers crossed because With Love from Sam has been entered in the American Book Awards. I'm not quite sure when the finalists are announced, but I'll keep you posted!

I just recently got some good news from a publishing company which I won't name yet because I don't want to jinx anything, but it's a very popular one which liked the first three chapters of one of my books which they read in only fifteen days, and now, they've asked for the full manuscript which I have to finish this weekend. Thank God I'm only three thousand words away!!!

It's been a while..

Yes, I know. I'm bad. I should have posted sooner, but honestly, with the new website just getting done, and the great comments I've been receiving because of it, I've just been basking in the glow.

I really lucked out with this great web designer: ML Benton of Moonglade Designs. She is so awesome and is going to be updating my website from here on it. I tried to keep up with it myself for a while, but it's gotten so that I was spending too much time on that and not enough on writing, etc.

Okay, so yesterday, the bookstore manager of my local Waldenbooks just called and said she just ordered fifty copies of Choices, fifty copies of Dark Kisses, fifty copies of With Love from Sam, and twenty-five copies of Bewitched, Bothered, and BeVampyred. How cool is that? 175 books in one order! I was stoked!

I think all of you have seen that I try to keep my blog as positive as possible because, well, you can find negativity all around you without even looking for it. BUT. Yes, you knew there was a but, right? Well, here it comes:

I have a really, really, really hard time with people who treat other people like a nuisance or inferior. Lately, I've been helping some authors who've really been kicked in the teeth by their publishers, and I'm finding it difficult to hold my tongue. These are brand new authors who are getting struck down by their very first publisher, and that can be a debilitating blow to a novice.

Anyway, I just had to say that because I'm a very fortunate person. I have great publishers, great friends, great reader support, a fantastic support system, and I've been blessed to be around people who genuinely love me and want to help me. That, my friends, is what every one of us needs! And those new authors don't deserve this. Actually, no author deserves it, but at any rate, to those publishers, I say, shame on you! You're taking advantage of a writer's dream.

Okay, I'm climbing down off my soap box, and I'm retreating to my neutral corner to dive back into edits.

I was in my bank today, and the bank manager-a truly wonderful lady who knows I'm a writer-told me they were having an auction for the March of Dimes, and she asked if I'd be willing to submit a book of mine. Luckily, I had two copies of With Love from Sam out in my car, and then she invited me to the auction which will take place on April 20th.

I know we all might not be able to give to charities on a regular basis as we'd like to, and this, to me, was a perfect way to give. Now, I'm not saying that I expect my book to go for one hundred dollars, but you never know. :-) And plus, children's charities have always been close to my heart.

And on that note, I'm twirling around an idea of writing a book completely dedicated to the children of fallen soldiers in Iraq. ALL of the proceeds will go to help those children. I'd like to involve a few of my friends, but the idea still hasn't fully come together yet. Suffice it to say it won't be what I usually write. LOL

I have another erotiquick coming out from Whispers (www.whispershome.com) shortly. This starts Isabella's Chronicles which will be a series of short stories about a matchmaking witch. So hope you enjoy those!

I'm concentrating on shorter books for e-books right now because I'm targeting my longer books at mainstream houses as well as agents. So for now, with the exception of The Hunted and Till We Meet Again, I don't know that I'll have any longer books coming out in the near future. EC has told me that I can submit a quickie which I'll probably do as soon as I finish it. :-)

Anyway, that's the update for now. I cannot wait for the website as it's going to have a lot of fun stuff as well as information.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've had the pleasure of interacting with some truly wonderful authors—writers who have talent, energy, drive, and yet, still have the doubts which make them truly great writers. I know that might not make sense, but I believe our doubts actually make us stronger. For it is when our self-confidence overtakes us that we lose our sense of humility. That's a recipe for failure. And yet, if our doubts overwhelm us, we'd be frozen in place. It's all about finding that balance.

And the authors I'm talking about seemed to have found it. Though their words could rival some of the greatest writers in history, they still carry a sense of humility, knowing that any day, they could lose the ground they've gained.

Here's hoping we all are as fortunate as these ladies are. Many thanks to Lori, Delilah, Myla, Leigh, Lauren, Lisa, Deb, and many others who have graced my life and shown me what I need to be!
